Verea
[Payment AI Platform]
Head UX/UI Designer
PROBLEM
Restaurants run on payment moments that break under pressure, a slow checkout, a declined card with no clear next step, a reconciliation report no one can read until close. Most POS software treats these as backend edge cases, not design problems.
ROLE
As designer and builder, I conceived, designed, and developed the entire frontend of Verea, a POS payment system that makes order, checkout, and settlement fast and trustworthy under pressure. I grounded decisions in a competitive POS reference and used AI-assisted development to reach a fully interactive prototype in one session.
Built with a tactile, ticket-inspired design system grounded in usability testing, taken from Figma to a working front-end prototype with Claude Code.
PROCESS
I designed four core surfaces: a floor view, a register with browsing and live search, a payment-failure flow that replaces decline codes with plain language and a visible recovery path, and a reconciliation view that surfaces only what needs attention. I ran usability sessions with real restaurant staff, coordinated a small team of designers, and worked with engineers and a PM to scope feasibility. Interactions were weighted by frequency of use: payment and order-entry got the largest targets and the only saturated color on screen.
OUTCOME
A software built around real business outcomes: faster table turnover, fewer lost orders through a clear sent-to-kitchen state, less time chasing failed payments, and a simpler end-of-day close. Iterative critique and usability feedback resolved real structural gaps, resulting in a tactile, ticket-inspired visual language distinct from typical fintech UI.
